There's always room for improvement

I have been playing around with some new editing software this week.   I found one of my favorite photos from a session over a year ago.  First off, a little disclaimer.

"I do not condone smoking,  I think it's a bit of a nasty habit, but....this vintage pin-up photo lends itself nicely to the old cigarette.  So we went with it."

The "Old Version" looked great, everyone loved it.  The client was happy and at the time, I didn't know how to improve on it.  Even when I pulled it up this morning I thought, "It's not THAT bad"  Until I decided to redo the old fav and see what this new software could do.  I started from scratch.  I applied all of my "new steps" and was astonished at the outcome.

I do believe you must start out with a great base, in photography that means a good eye.  You need creativity, know how and you must know composition.  A great camera and the right equipment are also part of the equation.  But editing tools, the RIGHT editing tools, can take your so-so photos and turn them into something wonderful.

For all of us out there, professionals and enthusiasts alike, go back, pick some of your oldies out and redo them.  I am amazed at the how far I have come in a year.  There's always room for improvement, which is great so none of us get burnt out.  Im excited to see where I am in another year.  How much more I have learned, new techniques, if the style has changed.

I am a constant evolution, in certain ways always reinventing myself, and that's Ok with me.  There is always room for improvement, in every aspect of our lives.

{ Experience } painting

This will be the second time I have collaborated with face/body painter Willow Durant.   She is always a pleasure, professional and very talented.  Along with our model of the day, they both must have an abundance of patience.  This last model took nearly 13 hours to paint.

For those of us who can appreciate the beauty of the human form and respect this type of art, Willow's paintings are beautiful and imaginative.  To watch her in her element is something else.

I have the easy piece of the project.  After so many hours of constant stillness, our model is finally ready to be photographed.  After all of the build up, we are done in such a short amount of time, but captured for eternity.

I just want to show you a few of the photographs from last nights shoot.  Thank you Willow and Meg for a fun creative day!

{ Empowering } women

I have thought for a long time that every women should have a boudoir session in their lifetime.  These sessions are fun, sassy and are so much more empowering that one might think.

I've recently seen articles of women bearing their souls about the power that this particular type of photography session can have on a person. I've also experienced the joy that my clients have left with after their own sessions.

Some women leave with a new appreciation for their own "imperfect" bodies.  They have shed tears with me, as well as leaving the studio with a feeling of conquering the world.  Here is a video clip of one of my previous boudoir nights.  Pay particular attention to the end, what this one women says about her feelings after her session.

"What's Your Sexy?" { Weekend Trunk Show } from Tambi Alderin on Vimeo.

I love these sessions.  I love making people feel beautiful and helping them realize what the rest of the world already sees.  Being someone who has always struggled with a positive self  image I have learned so much from the brave women I photograph.  I've learned that everyone is beautiful.  Our imperfections are what make us unique and we should celebrate that!  No matter what your size, shape, marital status or lack there of, there is always a reason for us to celebrate the fact that we are women, and beautiful "real" women at that.

I'm scheduling another Boudoir night here at Studio 3 for the night of March 19th.  What I would like to do for all of those women out there who have wanted to do this, but can't....I'd like to hear your story!

Tell me why YOU should have this opportunity.  I'd like to post your stories here on the blog, and choose one lucky lady to have her very own empowering Boudoir Session!

Send in a letter, make me a video, be creative!  All entries must be sent in my March 15th, so you have two weeks.  I'll post the stories as I recieve them, so more of you can be inspired by these women's stories. I need 5 entries minimum, so please send this link to your friends.  Let the rest of us learn from your story.  What journey did you take to realize your own outward beauty.

If our winner is unable attend the event of March 19th, they will have an opportunity to use their session at a later date, but only at one of the specified Boudoir Party nights.

Have fun, dig deep, and send me your stories.  Send all entries to tambilane@msn.com before March 15th.

{ Mustache } Mug Shots

I sort of just fell into this, but everyone's reaction has been fun!  It started with a furry mustache for a baby shower photo booth and evolved into something else entirely.

I have retired the original "furry" stache and now what you will find is something a little more classic.  People always want something fun to do.  Something different, out of the ordinary.  So why not get your photo taken with a mustache?  I know..weird.  But it's a craze!

Join me, {for now, by appointment } at the studio for a silly stache photo, a "mug shot" of sorts.  I want to see your personality, I know you have one!  And while we are at it, lets put it on a mug!

$30 will get you a few shots in your new "stache" and together we will pick a favorite to add to a personalized mug.   They are great as gifts, or keep for yourself when you need a good giggle.  But everyone needs a "Mug Shot!"

GO crazy!  Dress up!  Try a theme!  Whatever you decide, you are sure to have fun doing it...and this "mug shot" is a whole lot better than the one they would take of you at the Police Dept.

Happy { valentines } Day!

In the past I've snubbed my nose at this holiday, rolled my eyes at all the "mushy" loving going on and tried to forget that I'm still alone.

This year, I've vowed to not let thing like that bother me.  Honestly, sometimes I'm glad I'm single.  I have time to do the things I want, the way I want them.  Quite honestly, my version of being "alone" is really not that bad.  It's only from about 9pm on when the house is quiet, and the bed is empty that I even remember, and having a really comfy bed to myself is a really great trade off.

I found this quote last night, and couldn't have said it better myself.  So all you single's out there.  Take a lesson from the NY ladies and live your life!  When the right one comes along,  he / she will be a perfect fit for YOUR life!

"Being single used to mean that nobody wanted you. Now it means you're pretty sexy and you're taking your time deciding how you want your life to be and who you want to spend it with."- Sex and the City

In the meantime, Happy Valentines Day, from my family to yours!

new begginings {portrait}

I'm determined to make 2011 the best so far.  How can it not be when I was able to start the year out in one of my favorite places, Hawaii.

The website needs a little face lift, which I hope to find time for soon, the blog is another one on the list of  "to do betters" for the year, and I hope to make, along with my wonderful clients, a fantastic photo year.

I hope you will all watch me grow and take this journey of life, doing what I love and the laughs and cries a mother of two always faces.   Keep watch for new and exciting things at Tambi Lane Photography, where I hope to help you all make your life, ART!

For now, I leave you with my favorite photo from my time in Hawaii, a more sentimental one, this is the beautiful "Miss Bibbles" who I was snuggled up with on a hammock, enjoying her, along with her new parents.  This little peanut, has stolen my heart, from the moment I photographed her entering the world in October to the first smile and an attempt at a giggle, she has completely won me over.

Thank you Peaz family for making this trip to Hawaii a memorable and special one.  I am so blessed to be able to watch your family grow and be a part of your lives.  From the very beginning I have captured your lives in my camera, and you have continued to be one of my favorite clients, friends, chosen family, and all around special people.

Happy New Year, 2011, may you all find the "Art" in your lives as well.
